Sydney's best kept secret!

Dear guests,
I'm Carmen and we may likely meet during your stay since I spend a lot of time here at the Royal Hotel. It is the beloved home of two pets; a little toy poodle Baby Rango and Billy Bean the Siamese cat.

History
We have been hosting guests for over 240 years
Established in 1785, the Royal Hotel belongs to the earliest chapter of Sydney’s history, deeply shaped by British colonial life and enduring British heritage. Its early origins as Government House are inseparable from its historic identity, and from the royal associations embedded in its name and character.
Built from materials shipped across the Atlantic from Great Britain, it emerged in a world before electricity, before running water, and before motorcars had entered daily life. Horses and their stables were then essential, while newcomers arrived by boat at the harbour below the hotel.
Through the years, the hotel had many renovations and beautifully done upgrades.

A proprety from the Victorian Era...
Over the centuries, the Royal Hotel has been connected to notable figures including Joseph Frederick Wallet DesBarres, colonial administrator, and founding Lieutenant Governor of Cape Breton Island.
In 1875, it was home to Sir John A. Macdonald, Canada’s first Prime Minister, between his two terms in office. Macdonald is widely recognized as the key architect of Confederation and as a central figure in the building of the Canadian Pacific Railway.
Today, the Royal Hotel remains an authentic historic property that reflects the layered heritage of Sydney and Cape Breton Island, preserving a rare connection to our country’s earliest foundations.
Welcome to the Royal Hotel, a cute little Inn steeped in history since the 1700’s.
